The 32rd General Assembly of Asia – Pacific Metrology Program and Related Meetings (APMP 2016) organized by Viet Nam Metrology Institute, Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ), Ministry of Science and Technology (S&T) on November 09 to 18, 2016.

The Asia – Pacific General Assembly is annually organized in turn among member countries. APMP 2016 was attended by Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Viet Thanh; STAMEQ’s Deputy Director General Nguyen Hoang Linh and representatives from member countries of metrology organizations from regions in the world as International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIMP), International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIMP), International Standardization Organization (ISO), International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML), Asia - Pacific Legal Metrology Forum (APMLF)… With topic on “Metrology – Improving the quality and safety of life”, the Session this year recognized many presentations of domestics and international speakers, which were focused on very burning issues in Viet Nam as well those in the regions on food safety and environment.

Delivering the welcome speech in the General Assembly, Deputy Minister Tran Viet Thanh affirmed the metrology plays a very important role in management and control of factors affecting issues of life. Therefore, through this General Assembly the participants had opportunities to directly exchange and share experience on metrology, understand and promote bilateral and multi-lateral cooperative relations for development and integration objective in the world’s metrology community. According to Deputy Minister Tran Viet Thanh, Viet Nam as well as many developing nations in the world have been faced with many issues on food safety and hygiene, environmental pollution as water sources, atmosphere and light… “We hope to have opportunities to exchange ideas and learn ways to solve issues properly from experts on metrology in the world in order to solve arising issues faced by developing countries, including Viet Nam”, Deputy Minister Tran Viet Thanh mentioned in his speech.

In the General Assembly, issues mentioned and discussed by domestic and international speakers as Roles of metrology in improving the quality and safety of life; Identifying environmental pollution caused by organic harmful chemicals in Viet Nam and ensuring the quality during the conformity analysis process; Key laboratories, technologies of analyzing the quality of environment and control of food safety; NIST programs for healthcare of next generations and challenges for forensic examinations; Metrology in food safety – Viet Nam’s challenge… APMP’s activities took place during 11 days, starting from November 9 and ending in November 18, 2016.
