Viet Nam – the US: Promoting innovation and start-up movement

On November 01, 2016 in Ha Noi, the US’ Ambassador in Viet Nam Ted Osius and Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Van Tung opened the Forum on Promoting the Innovation and Start-up movement. This is an interaction forum and exhibition in order to the support Viet Nam’s developing innovation and start-up ecosystem.

Delivering the opening speech in Viet Nam, Ambassador Osius emphasized “Start-up activities focused on human beings and networks they create are to support ideas and move towards. Meeting more people, I have persuaded that innovation plays a decisive role for Viet Nam’s future”.

In the Ceremony, Deputy Minister said that start-up needs to be linked with research results and technology transfer to formulate enterprises develop in a sustainable way. From successful lessons of nations as Israel, the US, Germany,... Viet Nam’s Government has considered start-up an extremely important task and 2016 is the Year of National Start-up.

The Deputy Minister said that Viet Nam Innovation and Start up Day 2016 organized by MOST took place from November 12 to 13, 2016. The Deputy Minister hoped that through domestic and international entrepreneurs and investors, representative agencies of Ministries and branches would be motivation to promote Viet Nam’s start-up movement develop thoroughly, promote spirits of science passion and S&T use for the country’s sustainable economic development.

According to the Organizing Committee, forums were organized by Arizona State University (ASU) with support from the US’ Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, which had linking roles among businessmen, small and medium entrepreneurs, start-up businesses, educators, innovators and inventers with representatives of the Government in charge of development and management on policies on innovation and start-up.

In forums, the participants would cooperate together to identify challenges and look for solutions for supporting the start-up ecosystem which was developing and making economic values, at the same time promoting the development of science, technology, arts and math in Viet Nam.

This was the second time Arizona State University organized the Forum on promoting the Innovation movement. In 2015, the fora took place in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang City with the participation of businessmen, representatives from small and medium enterprises, branches, Government agencies, research community and a lot of students.

It is known that the second Forum on Promoting Innovation in Can Tho City on November 03, 2016.
