In the meeting, Minister Nguyen Quan highly appreciatedIAEA’s support to Vietnam in many fields, including nuclear power. IAEA has supported Vietnam with many technical cooperation projects such as developing nuclear power infrastructure;strengthening technical capacities of legal agencies on nuclear and radiation safety,… The Minister proposed IAEA to support Vietnam with finding a capable international consultant in fields of appraising bidding documents, designing documents with the highest assurance. Through the consultant introduced by IAEA, the most modern and safe technologies currently would be used as required by the Vietnamese party.

On IAEA’s, Mr. Alexander Bychkov expressed his willingness to provide support and advice for Vietnam on choosing the most advanced and safe technologies currently. In addition, IAEA hoped to continue supporting Vietnam on some fields as consultancy, construction of nuclear power plants; research and establishment of the Center for nuclear power research and training for high-level management human resource. “This is experience which IAEA has withdrawn from many nations in the world and can be applied to Vietnam”, Mr. Alexander Bychkov affirmed.

Through the meeting, the two parties agreed to organize an internal meeting betweenIAEA, Russia, Japan and Vietnam in order to find and solve possible arising issues as well as those relating to preparation, construction and completion when Vietnam’s first nuclear power plant goes into operation. “With IAEA’s support, Vietnam can select the best construction methodology and way and the safest technology for the coming time”, Minister Nguyen Quan expressed.
