Series of Seminars “Experiences in Science and Technology cooperation with Korea” and “Recommendations for Science and Technology cooperation: Vietnam – Korea”

According to the regular functional tasks assigned by the Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in 2018, on 24th September 2018, the Center for Vietnam Science and Technology Internationalization Promotion (VISTIP) organized two seminars “Experiences in Science and Technology cooperation with Korea” and “Recommendations for Science and Technology cooperation: Vietnam – Korea” in Hanoi. The two seminars were held with the expectation of getting experts’ consultation on experiences in S&T cooperation with Korea and solutions to establish the S&T cooperation between Vietnam and Korea.

Experts from Ministries, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology,....  attended the seminars. Especially, with the presentation "Understanding Korea's S&T policy", PhD. Nguyen Thi Tham – Director of Center for Korea Studies, Institute for Northeast Asian Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences shared about the characteristic of Korean policy: S&T development and economic development are connected closely.

In the seminar “Recommendations for Science and Technology cooperation: Vietnam – Korea”, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Oanh – a specialist of Fostering Innovation through Research, Science and Technology (FIRST) project implemented by the Ministry of Science and Technology – gave a presentation on “Science and Technology cooperation with Korea: Experiences and Lessons". Especially, Ms Nguyen Thi Thu Oanh emphasized on the reasons why Vietnam should co-operate with Korea in the S&T field, and gave specific lessons for Vietnam in order to cooperate with Korea effectively.

Also in the two sessions, experts and participants learned about S&T strengths, experiences in S&T cooperation with Korea, opportunities for cooperating directly with Korea in areas where Korea has strengths such as: electronics, shipbuilding, agriculture, electronics, natural environment and green energy….

The participants discussed with a great enthusiasm and openness on many issues in order to clarify the contents related to S&T cooperation with Korea. As a result, lessons have been given in proposing policy that encourages cooperation with Korea in the areas discussed. Participants also shared experiences in general as well as opportunities for cooperation in specific fields in particular in the seminars.
