Delivering a speech in the Opening ceremony, Master Phạm Quang Trung, Deputy Director of VAEA highly appreciated IAEA’s support to Vietnam for the preparation of the first nuclear power project, especially for the development of nuclear power infrastructure; The Workshop would be a good opportunity for Vietnamese officials to learn from international experience and lessons learnt on the development of integrated management systems for nuclear organizations, which is one of important factors contributing to the sustainable and efficient development of nuclear power.
Participating in the Workshop were experts of IAEA, the Russian Federation, Canada, Swiss and near 30 Vietnamese officials from Ministry of Science and Technology (VAEA, Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS), Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission (VAEC), Ministry of Industry and Trade (the Office of State Steering Committee for Ninh Thuận Nuclear Power Project, General Department of Energy, Institute of Energy, Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN), the Project Management Board of Ninh Thuận Nuclear Power Project), Ministry of Construction.
In the Workshop, the participants were provided with presentations delivered by IAEA experts and took part in discussions on issues as IAEA’s safety standards and benefits of the Integrated Management System and practical examples; Safety culture and development of leader groups; Formulation of processes based on management systems; international experience on the Integrated Management System and improvement of safety culture; Key components of management systems, environment, professional safety and radiation protection; aspects of the Integrated Management System for regulatory agencies; Safety instructions GS-G 3.1 and GS-G 3.5 in comparison with ISO 9001 and NQA 1; the management system for safety assessment during preparation process for the operation; control and continuous safety improvement during the operation of organizations; requirements for management systems for contractors: lessons learnt on nuclear power plants …. Representatives of Vietnamese stakeholders would present on the current situation of their integrated management systems as well as opportunities for improving their systems.
Also within the framework of this mission, IAEA experts also had working sessions with VAEA, VARANS, EVN and the Management Board of Ninh Thuận Nuclear Power Project to discuss about the plan of action for the coming time.
